Spiral Tree

This calculator is to assist in designing a spiral tree. The calculations are based on a spreadsheet I found on the Lights on Sixth web site.

For those that prefer imperial measurements, just key it in as feet instead of metres as read the results as feet as well. The only oddity there will be decimalised (it’s a word – maybe!) feet in the results.

You can also use this calculator for standard (non-spiral) trees. Just key in the tree height and base diameter and use the support length for as string length instead.

Suggestions for improvements appreciated.

Tree height (metres). This is the distance from the centre of the base ring to the tip of the tree.
Base diameter (metres). This is how wide the tree is at the base.
Number of turns around the tree for each string.
Number of strings on the tree
String length (metres). This is how long each string needs to be to wrap around the tree in a spiral.
Support line length (metres). This is effectively the side of the cone.
Support line string spacing (metres). The vertical spacing of the strings on the support wires.
Base Ring String Spacing (metres). The horizontal spacing between the strings around the base ring.
